Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Assessing patients’ dental and facial structures to identify misalignments and malocclusions.
- Utilizing diagnostic tools such as X-rays, photographs, and impressions to formulate treatment plans.
- Designing and applying orthodontic appliances, such as braces, aligners, and retainers, to correct misalignments.
- Monitoring patients’ progress throughout the course of treatment and making adjustments as necessary.
- Conducting initial consultations to evaluate patients’ orthodontic needs and discuss treatment options.
- Providing information to patients and their families about the recommended treatment plan, including potential outcomes and duration.
- Working collaboratively with general dentists and other dental specialists to address overall oral health and coordinate comprehensive care.
- Educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices during orthodontic treatment.
- Providing guidance on lifestyle adjustments to ensure the success of the orthodontic treatment.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of patient consultations, treatment plans, and progress.
- Staying updated on the latest advancements in orthodontics through continuing education to provide optimal care.
Requirement:
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree followed by a dental degree (Doctor of Dental Medicine or Doctor of Dental Surgery).
- Obtaining a state dental license to practice general dentistry.
- Completion of a postgraduate orthodontic residency program, usually lasting 2-3 years, accredited by the appropriate dental authorities.
- Some orthodontists choose to pursue board certification through the American Board of Orthodontics or similar organizations.
- Developing clinical skills in the use of diagnostic tools, treatment planning, and the application of orthodontic appliances.
