Job Description

A Collections Officer is responsible for managing and recovering outstanding debts from customers or clients. They work in financial institutions, collection agencies, or other organizations that require debt collection services. The primary duties of a Collections Officer include contacting debtors to request payment, negotiating repayment plans, and maintaining accurate records of all collections activities.

This position requires excellent communication and negotiation skills, as well as strong attention to detail. A Collections Officer should be able to handle sensitive situations tactfully and professionally. They must have knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing debt collection practices.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contacting debtors via phone, email, or mail to remind them of outstanding payments
  • Establishing payment plans and negotiating settlements with customers
  • Updating and maintaining accurate records of collections activities
  • Investigating and resolving any billing or payment discrepancies
  • Adhering to all relevant laws and regulations governing debt collection
