Job Description

JOB POSITION: Laboratory Technician.

JOB LOCATION: Olodi-apapa, Lagos.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Supporting/Assisting the Medical Laboratory Scientists in all areas of medical laboratory investigations and in all disciplines of medical laboratory science (i.e Haematology, Blood transfusion, Microbiology, Cytology, Chemical Pathology etc)
• Involvement in troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment, guards, devices and other appliances being used in the laboratory.
• Assisting in phlebotomy services, within the laboratory and outside the laboratory (where needed), after adequate training
• Assisting in the preparation of culture media and another laboratory reagent, as directed by the Medical Laboratory Scientists or/and or the Medical Laboratory Director
• Organizing and storing samples in accordance with all safety and other requirements to ensure the safety of personnel and integrity of the sample
• Maintaining equipment records and daily work logs
• Staying current on technical and scientific advances in their field
• Other professional duties, as may be directed by the Medical Laboratory Director

REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum academic qualification of OND in any Science Laboratory Technology or any related science course
• Minimum of 1 year of work experience in a Laboratory
• Certification as a licensed Laboratory Technician is mandatory (Certification from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) is preferred)
• Familiarity with HMO services and medical documentation using electronic medical records.

SKILLS:

• Attention to detail and good organizational skills
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Understanding of electronic and computerized equipment in laboratories
• Able to follow instructions and strictly follow procedures
• Basic computer skills, with proficiency in the use of Microsoft word.
• Interpersonal skills to develop professional relationships with patients.
• Collaborative skills to work with other medical care providers.
